Andre Yllana, son of Aiko Melendez, suffers effects of severe flooding.
Natural disasters sees no status in life and during the event of Carina, Aiko Melendez shared what happened to the car of her son.
Many were stranded but many were also rescued as several parts of Luzon got covered with water because of Carina which is now a super typhoon. This did not make landfall in the Philippines but it strengthened seasonal monsoon rains which cause severe flooding.
There were men stranded in a river and some barges were swept by strong water which damaged a part of a bridge. As of this writing, at least 12 people were reported dead and more than 600,000 are displaced.
Signal No. 2 was declared over Batanes while Signal No. 1 was raised in Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of mainland Cagayan, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte.
The enhanced southwest monsoon brought rain in areas such as Metro Manila, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, and the rest of the Ilocos region. The heavy downpour caused an overflow in the La Mesa Dam and this spilling could result flooding in the low-lying areas. Flights were also canceled because of the severe weather condition.
Everyone is affected and calamities such as this knows no one. This is what actress Aiko Melendez stressed in her post. She expressed that those who are suffering are not alone as they too, suffered from the impacts of the storm.
In her post, she shared that her son Andre Yllana’s car was swept away by strong flood waters. They even attempted to chase it to safety but to no avail. Despite this, what mattered most to them was their safety. She reiterated that a car is just a material object.
“Ang mahalaga ngayon ay walang masaktan at nasasaktan,” she said and added that as a public servant, she would prioritize her people in her district. Her son needed her but she has an obligation to the people.
