Duterte: Marcos Deserves To be in the Libingan ng mga Bayani
Marcos Deserves – President Rodrigo Duterte will stand firm with amid protests against the scheduled interment of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, as Malacañang Palace said.
In a report by Rappler, the President said that Marcos deserves to be placed in the Libingan ng mga Bayani as he was both a former president, a soldier, defense secretary, and a war veteran as well. This is in accordance to the rules of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“Even if he is not a hero, he was a soldier. Even if he didn’t receive the medals, correct, but that is the record of another country,” Duterte said as quoted in the report.
He also pointed out that the Philippines should not be referring on the records of another country as that United States’ occupation in the country is over.
“I would like to say forget about the medals. Just focus on whether he is a Filipino. He fought for his country, and he’s once upon a time a president. That’s the law! We cannot go out of the law,” Duterte added.
The government already announced that the interment of Marcos to the Libingan ng mga Bayani will be on Semptember 18 creating a lot of public buzzing both online and offline.
According to Duterte, the status of Marcos as a former president and soldier is the real issue and it does not automatically to be viewed as a hero.
The current President even said that not all of those buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani have a Medal of Valor.
Duterte even blamed the “yellow forces” for failing to do legal actions to stop the internment of President Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The “yellow forces” are referred to the Aquino family and their allies who are known to be political rival with the Marcoses.
