In the statement, Vice Ganda retracts his apology to Axel over the issue.
It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda was stern and straightforward as he takes back his post about apologizing to this “EXpecially For You” participant.
People must be stern and straightforward in their values and in calling out what is wrong. We believe that things such as calling out a wrongdoing must not be toned down regardless of anything.
Recently, Vice Ganda, along with the other hosts, faced the public and bravely expressed their statement and stand regarding the “nakaw na halik” issue that occurred in the “EXpecially For You” segment.
Showtime Searchee Axel Cruz clarified in a statement previously that his gesture was misinterpreted by the people online. He was about to do the “BroCode” but it turned out differently causing a loud buzz online.
“Alam mo bang pwede kang mademanda sa ginagawa mo? Don’t do that, hindi ka pwedeng biglang nagnanakaw ng halik,” Vice told Axel in the program.
Showtime Searcher Maria Christine broke her silence about the matter as well and said that she did not take the gesture badly. However, upon further investigation of the hosts along with their team of experts, it has been found out that the searcher was accordingly at a discomfort and said otherwise in her statement because of a reason that cannot be undisclosed.
In reality, the searcher felt “off” with what happened.
In the June 4 episode of It’s Showtime, Vice took back his statement about making an apology because of this.
“Nakausap po [naming] muli si Axel at si Christine, at dahil po don ay binabawi ko ‘yung ni-tweet ko na I will say an apology because I do not need to apologize for what I did,” he said. “Paniniwala namin na hindi namin kailangang mag-apologize because what we did was right.”
As a main host, he felt obliged to call out the gesture he saw was not right because if he won’t, they are the ones who will be called by the people and will be accused of many things. In the statement, he underscored that it is every woman’s right to express what she feels. She has the right to refuse and expresses herself if she feels that a gesture seems violating.
He also stressed that the call out happened to protect the woman.
Furthermore, Vice appealed to the netizens to stop the bashing towards Christine and Axel. The latter understands the situation and has learned from it.
