WALANG PASOK – Several local government units have declared class suspensions in some areas due to scorching heat temperature.
Over the past few weeks, numerous regions have been affected by the scorching heat. It causes discomfort and heat-related illnesses to the affected residents.
On Wednesday (April 24, 2024), educational authorities and local government units decided to suspend face-to-face classes across several areas, in response to rising temperatures and the looming threat of a scorching heatwave.
The announcement aims to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, educators, and school staff members who are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
Some LGUs and educational institutions implemented alternative learning modalities to ensure the continuity of education.
Here is the list of affected areas:
- Caloocan City – all levels, public schools; shift to asynchronous classes
- City of Manila – all levels, public and private; shift to asynchronous classes
- Pasay City – all levels, public and private; shift to any learning modality
- Quezon City – public schools automatically shift to alternative modes of learning when the heat index reaches 40°
- Angeles City – all levels, public schools; shift to alternative modes of learning
- Dipolog City – elementary and high school, public schools; shift to alternative modes
- General Trias City, Cavite – kinder to senior high school, public and private; shift to modular classes
- Oriental Mindoro province – pre-elementary to senior high school, public and private
- University of the East – UE Manila and UE Caloocan to shift to asynchronous for all levels for April 24 and April 25
Mayor Ruffy Biazon of Muntinlupa City takes precautionary measures to safeguard the community by suspending face-to-face classes at all levels of public and private schools. Biazon emphasized the potential danger posed by the soaring temperatures.
