BARANGAY OFFICIALS BENEFITS – Here is a guide on the benefits for the officers of the barangay as per the Department of Budget and Management.
One of the local levels in the Philippine government is the barangay. The officials in the barangay are determined through an election participated by the registered voters who are official residents of a specific barangay — just like the election day 2023 for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan.
The Barangay is headed by a Punong Barangay or also called the Brgy. Captain. There are seven (7) members of the Sangguniang Barangay, the Barangay Treasurer, and the Barangay Secretary who have specific tasks. The Treasurer and Secretary are appointed.
The Barangay officials have benefits aside from their monthly honoraria that vary among barangays. It does not go below P1,000 per month for the Punong Barangay and P600 per month for the Sangguniang Barangay members.
As mentioned earlier, the honorarium are not the only benefit that barangay officials get in return of being in public service. Here are the barangay officials benefits in the Philippines aside from the monthly honorarium as per the DBM:
- Christmas bonus in the form of cash gift. The amount is based on the rate approved under the law. This benefit includes the following:
- Punong Barangay / Barangay Captain
- Sangguniang Barangay members
- Barangay Treasurer
- Barangay Secretary
- Insurance Coverage under the Republic Act 6942 for the following:
- Punong Barangay
- Sangguniang Barangay members
- Barangay Treasurer
- Barangay Secretary
- Barangay Tanods not exceeding to 20 every barangay
- Medical Care that provides free hospitalization in government hospitals for the following:
- Punong Barangay
- Sangguniang Barangay Members
- Barangay Treasurer
- Barangay Secretary
According to the DBM, the aforementioned government officials may be confined in private hospitals with expenses that are chargeable against the funds of the barangay at not more than P5,000 per official.
- Free tuition and matriculation fees in government schools for the following positions including two (2) of their legitimate dependent children during their term of office only:
- Punong Barangay
- Sangguniang Barangay members
- Barangay Treasurer
- Barangay Secretary
- Conferment of Civil Service eligibility based on the number of years in the service for the following officials who have completed their term of office:
- Barangay for Punong Barangay
- Sangguniang Barangay members
- Barangay Treasure
- Barangay Secretary
- Preference in appointment to any government position of the following officials who have completed their term of office:
- Punong Barangay
- Sangguniang Barangay members
