Chinese and Philippine Ships Went Into Collission Last October 22, 2023
The recent collission between the Philippine and Chinese vessels must serve as a wake up call before worse things will happen.
The territorial dispute between the Philippines and China is undeniably far from over. I believe that the recent happenings are not showing positive progress regarding the issue. A collission even recently took place in Ayungin Shoal.
The Philippine authorities claimed that a dangerous maneuver of the Chinese ships led to the collission. The PH vessels involved were on a resupply mission to deliver food and other supplies to the grounded Philippine warship BRP Sierra Madre for the Navy personnel guarding the shoal.
The Ayungin Shoal is 105.77 nautical miles from Palawan. However, China is also making a claim that the said area is part of China’s Nansha Qundao and China’s territory. Just with this alone, the journey about the territorial dispute is visibly far from over.
I believe China is turning the tables as it called the Philippines to stop stirring up trouble over the disputed waters. It also called for PH to stop making provocations at sea and stop making dangerous moves. However, the proof of the Philippine authorities showed the Chinese ships blocking the Philippine vessels.
Things are getting more and more blurry over the territorial dispute between China and the Philippines. I believe that the authorities need to make a move and consider the recent collission as a wake up call over the case.
The Philippine authorities must not wait for much worse things to happen before making a significant move. Undeniably, while our country is in a 100% pursuit for diplomatic resolution of the issue, China is not stepping back on its disrespectful moves against the Filipinos.
Thus, if a significant move will not be done now or anytime soon, when?
