Kapamilya broadcaster Noli De Castro shares some of his moments with late Kapuso newscaster Mike Enriquez.
Television and radio newscaster Miguel “Mike” Enriquez passed away on Tuesday, August 29. As of this posting, the cause of his death has not been revealed yet. home network of nearly three decades, GMA, confirmed this amid the persisting stories about his passing online.
He suffered from diabetes and kidney disease. Before his kidney transplant in 2021, he would undergo dialysis three or four times a week. In 2018, he underwent a heart bypass operation.
Shortly after, GMA confirmed Enriquez’s death. In the statement, it said that the broadcaster peacefully passed away and added that the “Board of Directors, management, and employees of GMA Network, Inc. deeply mourns” the passing of the legendary broadcaster.
Before the confirmation, netizens already aired different reactions to stories about Enriquez’s death circulating online.
The whole broadcasting industry is heartbroken.
And recalling some of his fond memories with the late newscaster is Kapamilya broadcaster Noli De Castro. The ABS-CBN flagship news program reported his death and the reporters such as Bernadette Sembrano and Henry Omaga-Diaz expressed their condolences.
As De Castro recalled some of their moments together, he shared that they would often see each other during live coverages and added that they actually share a great and long friendship.
He shared, “Matagal-tagal din kaming naging magkaibigan ni Mike. Lagi kaming nagkakasabay sa mga live [coverages]… mga live, [sa] Quiapo… Basta may malalaking live, nagkakasabay kami, nung may prangkisa pa tayo.”
Before he passed away, he was a consultant for radio operations of GMA Network, and president of the network’s regional and radio subsidiary, RGMA Network Inc. Mike was also the manager of Super Radyo DZBB 594 AM.
He was, as well, a member of the Board of Trustees of La Salle Green Hills and was the Treasurer and Chairman of its Finance Committee.
