PAGASA: Typhoon Goring Maintains Strength, Storm Outside PAR Accelerates

PAGASA Releases Latest Weather Update for Tuesday (August 29, 2023)

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that Typhoon Goring maintains its strength and may cause signal no. 4 in extreme northern Luzon.

On Tuesday (August 29, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Typhoon Goring will continue to affect the country’s weather conditions.

Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda said that Typhoon Goring was last spotted 220 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan. Goring has maximum wind speeds of 155 kilometers per hour and gusts of 190 kph. It will still affect the eastern portion of northern Luzon.

“Nakikita nga natin na sakop pa rin ng malalakas na hangin itong eastern portion ng northern Luzon kung saan kapag mas lumapit pa itong si Bagyong Goring dito sa area ng extreme northern Luzon ay posibleng magtaas tayo ng wind signal no. 4 dito yan sa may Batanes, Babuyan islands area,” Castañeda said.

Various tropical cyclone wind signals are still up in the following areas:

Signal No. 1

•             Northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan

•             Eastern portion of Isabela

•             Northern portion of Apayao

•             Northern portion of Ilocos Norte

Signal No. 2

•             Batanes

•             Rest of Babuyan

•             Extreme northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan

Signal No. 3

•             Northeastern portion of Babuyan islands

Meanwhile, PAGASA is monitoring Tropical Storm Haikui outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It was located at 1,965 kilometers east of Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Haikui is expected to enter PAR on Wednesday afternoon or evening (August 30). The weather disturbance will be named “Hanna” once it enters the country’s vicinity.

PAGASA reported that tropical storm outside PAR is less likely to directly affect the country but may enhance habagat, which will bring occasional or monsoon rains over the western portion of Luzon and Visayas.
