Former Gilas Mainstay Gary David Removed from Meralco’s Roster

Former Gilas Pilipinas mainstay and one of the most veteran member of Meralco Bolts, Gary David has been removed from the Bolts’ official active roster after he was handed a one-game suspension by the management of Meralco. According to a news report by FOX Sports Asia, Gary David is now a free agent while Rey Guevera was re-activated to take “El Granada’s” place in the Bolt’s squad.

The Meralco Bolts team management has suspended the veteran guard for insubordination during their game against the NLEX Road Warriors last Friday. During the entire second half of the Bolts’ 99-104 defeat against NLEX he sat out, and played for a total of only seven minutes.

Right after the game, the 37-year-old shooting guard rued his lack of playing time. According to the report posted by Fox Sports, Gary David is now looking forward to playing for another team in the PBA.

Although now an official free agent, Gary David will still get his salary until his contract expires at the end of the 2015-2016 PBA Season.

In a statement released Sunday, the Bolts said David was called upon by head coach Norman Black with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, but the player “indicated to Coach Norman that he did not want to play.”

“After further investigation, it was clear there were no physical impediments for Gary not to enter the game,” the team said.
But David said in a previous report that he had a sprain.
