Pura Luka Vega Declared as Persona Non Grata in City of Manila
The City of Manila has officially declared Pura Luka Vega as a persona non grata following his remix performance of “Ama Namin”.
Over the past few weeks ago, Filipino drag artist Pura Luka becomes one of the most controversial personalities online after uploading a video of himself and other LGBTQ+ members partying to a remix version of Ama Namin.
The internet personality received backlash and negative reactions from the online community, with many finding the performance offensive and blasphemous. Lawmakers and public figures have denounced the act, characterizing it as an abuse of freedom of expression and a misuse of artistic liberties.
Vega potentially faces legal consequences, including charges for violating Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code. This legal provision targets acts that offend a specific race or religion, particularly “in the performance of obscene or indecent plays, scenes, acts, or shows.”
Acknowledging the controversy, Pura Luka Vega admitted that her performance had indeed been blasphemous and offensive. However, she reiterated that she should not be dictated on how to practice her faith.
On Wednesday (August 9, 2023), Manila City Council declared Pura Luka Vega or Amadeus Fernando Pagente as persona non grata in Manila City. The announcement came after the council unanimously approved the decision.

Being a persona non grata means that Pura Luka is no longer welcome in Manila.
After General Santos City in South Cotabato, Floridablanca in Pampanga, and Toboso in Negros Occidental, Manila is the fourth local government to proclaim the drag artist persona non grata.
