Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan to Form Team That Will Inspect Drinking Water Prices in Town
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan is set to deploy a team to inspect drinking water prices in the town.
On Thursday (August 3, 2023), the Lapu-Lapu City Government held a meeting with the Lapu-Lapu City Water Station Owners Association after the association expressed its desire to increase the prices of drinking water.
Initially, LLCWSAO planned to raise the drinking water prices starting August 1, 2023. Water refilling station owners asked for a price hike due to the surging operating expenses.

However, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan listened to public sentiments and opposed the price increase after receiving reports that several refilling stations imposed an increase from P10-P15 to P25 per five-gallon container.
“I want everyone to know that the increase doesn’t have permission from the city, which means the implementation is unauthorized. This means the prices of a gallon of drinking water remain at P10-P15,” Chan said in the local language.
Chan wants water refilling stations to implement a fair increase and explained that without getting the approval of the Local Price Regulatory Council, water refilling stations cannot quickly implement the price increase.

The city mayor noted that water stations need to consult the Sangguniang Panglunsod. He will deploy an inspection team that will monitor the prices of drinking water in the city.
Companies caught charging an additional amount will be sanctioned, which may lead to the revocation of their permits.
“Akong ipatuyok ang akong inspection team sa tibuok syudad para sa pagsuta kung kinsa kadtong mga tindahan sa tubig nga nagbuhat niini ug kung aduna koy masakpan, akong ipa revoke ang permit,” he added.
LLCWSOA President Juliet R. Jamil apologized to the city mayor for making such plans without consulting the city. Necessary documents are expected to be sorted out on August 9, 2023.
