Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, May 19, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.9 magnitude quake in Balut Island, Davao Occidental today, Friday, May 19, 2023.
Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.9.
The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental, today, Friday, May 19, 2023, at 04:21 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Balut Island.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 03.44°North, 125.59°East – 219 km South 05° East of Balut Island. It had a depth of focus of 170 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, no intensity was felt nor recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensities were recorded as well.
