PBA Basketball Players to Pay P70k Penalty for Playing Outside League and Involved in Brawl
2 basketball players of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) to pay a P70k penalty for playing outside the league and being involved in a brawl in Cebu.
It can be recalled Beau Belga, a Rain or Shine Elasto Painters player, has been suspended following a scuffle at Carmen Municipal Gym in Cebu this weekend. Belga can be seen playing with some players in a video shared by a concerned netizen.
In addition to Belga, Jio Jalalon, Robert Bolick, and JR Quiahan were present when the two squads clashed. Belga is seen throwing a ball at a player of the other team, based on the video.
Fortunately, the supporters and officials were able to maintain control of the players. Millions of people have already watched the video. Belga has been suspended for six days without pay for his participation in an irregular basketball game, according to the newspaper.
As a result, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial denied the three basketball players permission to pass. Jalalon’s fine reached P100,000 because he did it twice, the first time in 2020.
Based on the report, Belga and Quinahan were fined P70,000 apiece for playing an exhibition game in Cebu without permission from the PBA or their respective mother teams. There was even a commotion as a result of the intense match.
Jalalon, Belga, and Quinahan are Cebu teammates who competed in Northball against foreign players. The PBA also fined Rey Nambatac of RoS, Arwind Santos of NorthPort, and Converge combo Barkley Ebona and Alec Stockton P50,000.
