Lady Netizen Slams Fellow Passenger for Body Shaming Students Inside Public Bus
BODY SHAMING INCIDENT – A lady netizen called out her fellow passenger for body shaming students on a passenger bus.
A netizen, known as “Gelot Ambolode,” recently spoke up against a fellow passenger who was body shaming students on a passenger bus en route to San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
Gelot recounted that she was deeply disturbed by the derogatory comments coming from a woman passenger whom she referred to as “madam,” when they were at North Fairview in Quezon City.
According to Gelot, at first, she tried to ignore the hurtful remarks of the woman, thinking that she was actually part of the three students who boarded the bus.
However, she couldn’t disregard the situation any longer when she overheard the woman demanding a discounted fare from the students, claiming that she couldn’t sit comfortably due to their weight taking up most of the seat.
The woman even went on to argue that she had to resort to commuting because her driver was unavailable. Gelot was appalled by the audacity of the woman, who seemed to be complaining about the weight of the students and making derogatory comments about their appearance.
Gelot decided to speak up and confronted the woman, expressing her disagreement with the body shaming behavior. She also delivered a message to the three students, letting them know that they should not be subjected to such mistreatment and that they should be proud of their bodies.
In an interview, Gelot emphasized her intention to share her experience on Facebook to raise awareness and put an end to the harmful practice of body shaming. She expressed her hope that her post would contribute to breaking the stigma associated with body image and encourage others to stand up against such behavior.
The social media users expressed their reactions to the post:
