Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Visits Digos City for an Unveiling Ceremony Event
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President was welcomed as “the next president of the Philippines” during her visit in Digos, Davao del Sur.
In February, amid facing impeachment complaints, Vice Pres. Duterte declared that she will run for president in 2028. According to the Vice President, while she has questioned the weight of the responsibilities of the president, she realized that her life is not for hers alone.
Vice Pres. Duterte previously claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has already given her his blessings to run for the presidency. According to her, her father is even excited to be her number one supporter and to campaign for her.
Currently, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte remains detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) since March 2025. He was arrested by the Philippine authorities and was sent to The Hague, Netherlands for the transfer of his custody to the ICC.
The Marcos Jr. government was heavily-criticized over the arrest and the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the ICC. Davao Mayor Baste Duterte vowed that they will fight back.
Amid the rift between her and the President, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that she will not be a vengeful president. However, she also clarified that those who committed mistakes must be held accountable. The Vice President claimed that it will be the duty of her vice president so she can focus on her job as president.
Recently, according to News5, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte visited Digos City, Davao del Sur for an event. Based on the post, during her visit, the Vice President was warmly welcomed and was even called as “the next president of the Philippines”.
While she admitted that she has already recruited someone to be her running mate in 2028, Vice Pres. Duterte did not name names. According to her, the person has yet to decide. She revealed that it was last year when she talked to the person to form a tandem with her.
Currently, the Vice President is faced with two (2) impeachment complaints filed against her before the House of Representatives’ Office of the Secretary General. The Vice President is accused of the following:
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount over PHP 500 million confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Office of the Vice President from 2022 to 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount of not less than PHP 112.5 million of confidential funds allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the year 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust by corrupting and bribing officials of the DepEd
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in contracting to murder or assassinate the president, the first lady, and the former speaker of the House
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in amassing unexplained wealth and failing to disclose all her properties and interests in properties in her SALN
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in committing acts of political destabilization and the high crimes of sedition and insurrection
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte revealed that four (4) politician reached out to her for her 2028 senatorial slate.
