The development quickly sparked speculation online, especially after Angel’s recent public criticism of Mariel’s husband, Senator Robin Padilla.
Fans began discussing the apparent social media move, wondering whether it was connected to Angel’s viral Facebook post addressing the actor-turned-senator. After the issue gained traction, many users checked the actresses’ Instagram accounts to verify the claims.
A closer look confirmed that Angel is no longer included in Mariel’s following list on Instagram. However, despite Mariel’s apparent unfollow, Angel continues to follow the TV host-actress on the social media platform. The online buzz comes shortly after Angel’s Facebook post criticizing Robin’s stance on several controversial issues in the Philippines, particularly those involving politics. Her remarks drew widespread attention and became one of the most talked-about topics on social media.
The controversy stemmed from Senator Robin Padilla’s admission during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday, July 14, when he acknowledged being a “komunista” while being questioned by Atty. Jeremy Lotoc as a witness.
Following that testimony, Angel expressed her disappointment and questioned Robin about his silence during the period when she was allegedly being linked to red-tagging. She also admitted feeling disheartened over what she perceived as the senator’s support for Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy, who is currently facing multiple legal cases.
Angel ended her message with a direct appeal to the senator, saying, “Tama na, Kuya. Gising na. Hindi pa huli ang lahat.”
As of now, neither Mariel Padilla nor Angel Locsin has publicly addressed the Instagram unfollow or confirmed whether it is related to the recent political exchange involving Robin Padilla. The issue remains a subject of online discussion, with many waiting to see if either side will break their silence.
Mariel and Robin have both worked with Angel in the past. Angel and Robin starred together in the GMA series Asian Treasures and later served as judges on ABS-CBN’s Pilipinas Got Talent alongside Freddie M. Garcia (FMG) and Vice Ganda.
