Authorities Arrest Indian National for Attempting to Bribe Officer for NBI Clearance
An Indian national was arrested after attempting to bribe an officer to secure an NBI clearance in Ilocos.
The National Bureau of Investigation Ilocos Regional Office carried out the operation following a report of bribery.
According to authorities, the suspect went to the NBI office to apply for a clearance. During the process, his application showed a status with a hit. It means that his name matched or was linked to a record that needed further checking. He was informed that he could not immediately receive his clearance.

Further verification revealed that his name was connected to a pending case of rape with an active warrant issued by a Regional Trial Court in Capiz. The suspect denied any involvement and claimed that he was not the person being referred to in the case.
He was then advised to secure a court clearance and a certification proving that he was not the same individual facing the charges. This is a normal process to ensure that records are accurate before releasing official documents.
After a few weeks, the suspect contacted the officer in charge of the clearance section. Instead of following the proper process, he directly asked how much money he needed to pay in order to obtain his clearance without completing the required steps.

The bribery attempt raised concern among the authorities, which led to an entrapment operation. During the operation, the suspect was caught in the act of handing over money as a bribe and was immediately arrested.
A case for corruption of public officials has already been filed against him. Meanwhile, the NBI is also coordinating with its office in Capiz to confirm whether the suspect is the same person involved in the reported case.
