SK Launches Community Pantry for Drivers Struggling w/ Rising Fuel Prices

The Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay 172 launched a special community pantry aimed at helping drivers in Caloocan City.

SK of Barangay 172 launched a community pantry to help drivers who continue to struggle with the increasing cost of petroleum amidst rising fuel prices. The simple act of kindness brought hope to many drivers in Caloocan City.

Last Saturday, April 5, 2026, the project, called Para kay Kuya Driver, was held at the Urduja Covered Court. It was created to support drivers who are directly affected by the continuous rise in fuel prices, making it harder for them to earn enough for their daily needs.

Around 180 drivers benefited from the initiative. Among them were tricycle drivers, jeepney drivers, TNVS drivers, and motorcycle taxi riders. Each one received basic food items that could help ease their daily expenses.

The goods included fresh fish, eggs, bread, and other essential supplies that they could bring home to their families. The event showed a strong sense of community as it was made possible through combined efforts.

The SK officials worked closely with homeowners’ associations and private individuals within the barangay, who willingly shared what they could to make the project successful. Their donations and support played a big role in reaching many drivers in need.

For the drivers, the pantry was more than just a place to get food. It became a reminder that even in difficult times, people are still willing to help one another. Many of them spend long hours on the road just to provide for their families, despite the challenges brought by high fuel costs.

“Sa gitna ng krisis sa ating bansa, ang Sangguniang Kabataan 172 ay hindi mananatiling tahimik, hindi lang rin iimik, kundi kikilos at ipararamdam ang tunay na Aksyon at tunay na Solusyon na ating kinakahaharap na suliranin,” the group wrote.
