Sen. Robin Padilla Chides Gov’t Officials Pushing for Impeachment Process
ROBIN PADILLA – The Senator chided the government officials who are pushing for the legal proceedings of an impeachment.
It is widely known among the Filipino people that some senators in the 20th Congress are staunch allies of the Duterte family. In fact, they refer to themselves as members of the Senate’s “Duterte bloc”. Two Duterte allies in the upper chamber recently reaffirmed their loyalty to former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Senators Bong Go and Robin Padilla are among Duterte’s closest allies in the Senate. Both senators have topped past election results. Padilla even went so far as to declare the former Chief Executive a hero amid his detention under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Padilla has also claimed that the Philippines was allegedly the “safest country” during Duterte’s administration. The Senator has openly opposed efforts to impeach Vice Pres. Sara Duterte who was faced with four (4) impeachment raps.

Of the four impeachment raps filed against Vice Pres. Duterte before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives, two (2) impeachment complaints have been deemed sufficient in grounds by the House Justice Committee. One of these complaints cites the following allegations against the daughter of former Pres. Duterte:
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount over PHP 500 million confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Office of the Vice President from 2022 to 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount of not less than PHP 112.5 million of confidential funds allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the year 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust by corrupting and bribing officials of the DepEd
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in contracting to murder or assassinate the president, the first lady, and the former speaker of the House
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in amassing unexplained wealth and failing to disclose all her properties and interests in properties in her SALN
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in committing acts of political destabilization and the high crimes of sedition and insurrection

The House Justice Committee recently conducted its first hearing on the impeachment complaints filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte but she skipped the hearing. The legal proceedings pushed through as the panel has also invited the complainants.

Recently, Sen. Robin Padilla, through a post on social media, chided the government officials who are pushing for the hearing of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment complaints. He stressed that only the Senate can allegedly conduct a hearing to determine if there is really a case.
“Matindi ang krisis na ito Naubusan na ng Langis ang turnilyo ng mga nagsusulong ng impeachment. Ang batid ko senado ang dapat magsagawa ng pagdinig kung may kaso nga Talaga,” the Senator wrote.
Sen. Robin Padilla is one of the senators who greeted former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte on his 81st birthday today through a post. The former President is celebrating his second birthday inside the ICC detention facility in The Hague.
Recently, a member of the House of Representatives slammed the camp of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte for questioning the impeachment proceedings. It came after the Duterte camp questioned the constitutionality of the House panel hearing.
