DepEd Reminds Schools of Strict No Collection Policy for Graduation and Moving Up Ceremonies

The Department of Education in Region 6 reminded schools to strictly follow the no collection policy for graduation and moving-up ceremonies.

According to DepEd Region 6 spokesperson Hernani Escullar Jr., no school personnel is allowed to ask for or collect any form of payment or contribution from students or parents for these activities.

The reminder aims to protect families from unnecessary expenses, especially during a time when many are already managing tight budgets.

No Collection Policy

The department emphasized that celebrations should remain simple but meaningful. Schools are encouraged to avoid costly programs, large venues, and expensive requirements that could place pressure on parents.

The agency said that the focus should be on recognizing the achievements of students rather than spending too much money.

At the same time, DepEd clarified that voluntary contributions from parents or the Parents and Teachers Association are allowed, as long as they are not forced or required by teachers or school officials.

No Collection Policy

These contributions may be used for simple gatherings or small tokens, but participation must always be optional.

DepEd also stressed that students should not be prevented from joining graduation or moving-up ceremonies if their families cannot give any contribution. Every student has the right to take part in this important milestone regardless of financial capacity.

When it comes to attire, the education department reminded schools that the basic requirement is the school uniform. Wearing togas or special outfits is only optional and should depend on the agreement between parents and teachers.

Based on data from DepEd Region 6, more than 170,000 students from both public and private schools are expected to graduate this year. Graduation ceremonies are scheduled to take place from March 30 to 31, 2026, marking an important moment for students and their families.
