On Monday, Palace press officer Claire Castro demanded PHP 500 million from Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste. This amount will compensate her after he allegedly caused her “sleepless nights and anxiety” when he filed a cyber libel complaint against her and for ruining her integrity.
In a social media post, Leviste doesn’t see the need for him to compensate her; however, he is willing to cover her medical expenses if she needs treatment.
“Okay, P500 million damages, it is part of my compulsory counterclaim, as I believe that because of twisting some facts in the complaint, it ruined my integrity as Palace Press Officer. I believed that I deserved and I am entitled to such damages,” said Castro at a press briefing when asked for a comment on the lawmaker’s post.
She noted that it is also good that he admitted that he is causing her sleepless nights and anxiety because it will be a part of her case. Castro said, She also said, “Good, very good, he admitted that he is causing me sleepless nights and anxiety. So, that will be part of the case.”
To recall, last January, Leviste filed a civil libel complaint against Castro for allegedly spreading false information about his businesses. He sought PHP 100 million in moral damages, PHP 10 million in exemplary damages, and PHP 1 million to cover attorney’s fees.
He accused Castro of “defaming him” when she claimed that he illegally sold off the franchise for Solar Para Sa Bayan Corp. (SPBC), one of his companies in the power sector.
