PH Transport Group PISTON Prepares Nationwide Strike on Thursday (March 19)
PISTON – The transport group is preparing to hold a nationwide transport strike on March 19, 2026 (Thursday).
The transport group is set to impose a nationwide transport strike as a protest against the continued increase in fuel prices. The group believes that the rising cost of oil is putting a heavy burden on drivers and ordinary commuters across the country.
PISTON announced the plan during a press conference led by its national president, Mody Floranda. According to him, the protest will not only take place in the National Capital Region but also in several provinces and cities nationwide.

The group said the strike will be led by drivers, operators, and concerned citizens who want to show their frustration over what they believe is a lack of strong action from the government regarding the impact of surging oil prices on Filipinos.
Aside from staging the protest, the group also plans to submit a proposal asking for a five-peso increase in the minimum fare for public transport. They believe the fare hike could help drivers cope with the growing cost of fuel and other daily expenses related to their work.
At the same time, the group criticized the government’s offer of P5,000 in cash assistance for affected drivers and operators. According to them, the amount is too small and may only cover a few days’ worth of fuel expenses.

The transport group also appealed to oil companies to sell their remaining cheaper fuel stocks first before implementing new price increases. They believe this could help ease the financial pressure on drivers and commuters, even for a short time.
The planned strike is expected to affect many commuters if large numbers of drivers decide to join the protest. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the scheduled date approaches.
