Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Alleged Confirmation of Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ Priority
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that she allegedly found out that the priority of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is Charter Change.
It is no secret to the Filipino populace that the ties between Marcos Jr. and Duterte has gotten sour. It was after she resigned from being the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and as member of the Marcos Jr. Cabinet that the people started noticing the gap between the two highest officials in the government.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte announced that she will run for president in 2028 and along with her announcement was the claim that Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is supposedly unfaithful to his campaign promises. The Vice President admitted that she has long questioned the weight of being the president but she realized that her life is not for her alone.
The announcement of Duterte earned different reactions from the people. Amid their rift, she denied that she will be a vengeful president in case she wins the next election.
For his part, Pres. Bongbong Marcos wished Vice Pres. Sara Duterte a “good luck” in her 2028 presidential bid. Malacañang claimed that the President is not bothered by the announcement of the Vice President as he is focused with his work.
Recently, during an interview, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the priority of Pres. Bongbong Marcos is allegedly Charter Change. Based on News5, the Vice President recalled a supposed confrontation between her and the Chief Executive which took place in November 2023 before he flew to the United States for the APEC.
According to the Vice President, she asked Sen. Imee Marcos to come with her as she needs to confront the President. She stressed that the Senator is her friend while she has no other ties with Marcos Jr. apart from him being the country’s president.
“Kinumpronta ko diretso si BBM. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Bakit merong pagpaplano ng impeachment sa House of Representatives sa akin?’” Duterte said.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly denied that there are impeachment moves against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives. According to her, because he was allegedly so talkative, he revealed that Charter Change is his priority.
“Alam niyo si BBM nag-eenglish ‘yan eh. Sabi niya, ‘Oh that’s not true. There’s nothing like that.’ Ganyan siya. Tapos, natigil ‘yung denial niya kasi sa sobrang daldal niya, lumabas sa bigbig niya na ang prayoridad raw is Charter Change. So nung narinig ni Senator Imee ‘yung Charter Change, nag-react siya. Sabi niya, ‘Sa dami-dami ng problema ng ating bansa bakit nagging Charte Change na ang prayoridad?’” the Vice President said.
Based on the post, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly cited the economic provisions as the reason behind the supposed pursuit for Charter Change. However, according to the Vice President, the Senator opposed it explaining that it will not only be about it as it will abolish the vice president and lengthen the terms of the House members among others.
“Na-confirm ko na alam ni BBM ‘yung ginagawa bilihan ng signature sa People’s Initiative doon sa discussion naming kasama si Sen. Imee Marcos,” Duterte added.
Sen. Imee Marcos aligned herself with the Dutertes amid the political turmoil in the Philippine government. She is even speculated as the possible running mate of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte after she confirmed that she has already recruited someone to be her running mate.
