Davao Mayor Baste Duterte Speaks on Dad Rodrigo Following ICC Visit
BASTE DUTERTE – The Davao Mayor confirmed that former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte lost weight amid his detention under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
The Duterte family is taking turns in visiting former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte inside the ICC detention facility in The Hague. The former President is detained under the custody of the foreign court since March 2025.
It was last March 11 when the Philippine authorities who assisted the International Criminal Police Organization or Interpol arrested former Pres. Duterte. He had just arrived from Hong Kong when the arrest took place.
Duterte was with his common-law wife, Honeylet Avanceña, and youngest daughter, Kitty Duterte, when he was detained for several hours at Villamor Air Base. On the same day that he was arrested, the former President was flown out of the country for the transfer of his custody to the ICC.
Amid the unexpected turn of events, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte accused the Marcos Jr. administration of alleged “political maneuver” over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. He stressed that they will fight back.
“This is not the Philippine National Police serving a warrant since they cannot even justify their actions. This is a political maneuver of the Bongbong Marcos administration. Be prepared no matter what,” the younger Duterte said.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is detained under the custody of the ICC for almost a year now. The foreign court denied his appeal for an interim release and several pleas of his camp were also denied by the court.
Duterte refused to attend the confirmation of charges hearing which was recently held from February 23 to February 27. According to the former President, he is frail and old and has accepted the possibility that he will die in prison.
The former President’s lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, also claimed that Duterte is not monitoring the ICC legal proceedings anymore. Recently, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte who is currently in The Hague confirmed that his father has lost weight.
Based on News5, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte confirmed that his father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, is slimmer now because of his poor appetite. However, he clarified that it is not because of the flood but because of his situation.
“Of course [pumayat]. Lahat naman siguro, kapag ikaw, nilagay sa detention unit, you get depressed. You don’t want to eat the food because wala siyang gana. I think that’s natural for everyone,” the Davao Mayor said based on the post.
Recently, Mayor Baste Duterte also confirmed that their family and even their father is prepared for any eventuality over the ICC case against the former President.
