Senator Raffy Tulfo eyes reelection in the 2028 national elections.
On Monday, Senator Raffy Tulfo expressed his desire to be reelected in 2028 in the Senate, not the presidency or vice presidency.
VP Sara Duterte’s early declaration for the 2028 presidential election has created a loud buzz, but this is irrelevant to the impeachment complaints filed against her. Following her declaration, several other names were dragged, and some were already asked about their plans as early as now.
Among them is Senator Raffy Tulfo. Will he go after the presidency or vice presidency?
In an interview, he expressed that being in the Senate brings him contentment, and he is able to do a lot of things. This makes him decide to go after reelection instead of seeking a higher position.
Tulfo said he had turned down proposals from certain members of the private sector urging him to run for a higher position. However, he clarified that neither Vice President Sara Duterte nor President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had approached him about it.
“Yung mga nagsabi sa akin, yun nasa private sector… kumbaga nag-recommend lang. Pero wala nagsabi na, ‘Uuy, tumakbo ka, akong bahala sa’yo, tulungan kita.’ Wala. Yun yung mga nakipag-usap sa akin, parang nag-recommend lang, parang sasuggest, what if yun. Tapos yung sabi ko, ‘Pasensya na, ayoko,’” he said.
He feels that he can do a lot more as a senator than as a president.
His target is to be re-elected because he is happy this way. He will definitely run for senator again, saying, “Definitely. I will run for re-election. Yan itaga nyo sa bato. I will run for re-election sa 2028 as senator.”
Meanwhile, his brother, Senator Erwin Tulfo, also had no plans of running for higher office. Tulfo issued the statement after an analyst suggested a possible presidential–vice presidential tandem pairing former Vice President Leni Robredo with Sen. Erwin Tulfo.
