Palace says President Bongbong Marcos is not daunted by the declaration.
President Bongbong Marcos remains “undaunted” despite VP Sara Duterte’s recent announcement that she will seek the presidency in Halalan 2028.
A fourth impeachment complaint was filed on Wednesday before the House of Representatives against Vice President Sara Duterte, alleging that she did not fully disclose her assets in her Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) and may have accumulated wealth disproportionate to her lawful income.
With four impeachment complaints now filed, the House has to decide whether the accusations, especially those about SALN disclosures and unexplained wealth, are serious enough to meet the requirements for impeachment under Article XI of the 1987 Constitution.
This came following Duterte’s announcement of running for president in the 2028 national elections.
On Thursday, Malacañang said that President Bongbong Marcos is undaunted despite the early declaration of Duterte of her intention. Communications Undersecretary Clair Castro told Palace reporters, “Ang pangulo masisindak? Hindi naman kasindak-sindak.”
According to her, even before the announcement, they can really feel that the campaign has already started. This made her declaration no longer surprising. She added, “Kung ang iisipin lang ng Pangulo ay ang mga sinasabi ng bise presidente, hindi na tatakbo ang gobyernong ito.”
Moreover, Castro dismissed claims that the administration is already looking for possible contenders to run against Duterte in the 2028 elections. The president’s focus now is entirely on his job.
“Hindi pa rin po ito napag-uusapan… Trabaho, trabaho, tabaho, hindi bakasyon,” she said.
To recall, Duterte was Marcos Jr.’s vice president in the 2022 elections. However, a few years after their landslide win, they had a fallout that’s been going on and remained unresolved until now.
Duterte said she will run for president in order to correct what she described as her mistake of backing Bongbong Marcos in the 2022 elections.
