ML Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima Speaks on VP Leni Robredo, 2022 Loss
LEILA DE LIMA – The Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Representative expressed her hope that former Vice President Leni Robredo will run again in 2028.
The recent lunch meeting of the members of the opposition sparked speculations that they are possibly starting to talk about the 2028 Elections already. Former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo, and senators Kiko Pangilinan, Bam Aquino, and Risa Hontiveros are among those who were present at the lunch meeting.
The members of the opposition definitely had a great reunion. Former senator and now Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima, former Senate Pres. Franklin Drilon, Akbayan Rep. Chel Diokno, and former Budget Secretary Butch Abad were also present at the lunch event.
In 2022, then-outgoing Vice Pres. Leni Robredo and then-former Sen. Kiko Pangilinan formed a strong tandem that gathered countless supporters nationwide. However, the Leni-Kiko tandem did not make it to lead the presidential and vice presidential results. Meanwhile, several political analysts believe that they made historical campaign rallies that gathered solid supporters.
In the 2022 Elections, then-former Sen. Bongbong Marcos ran for president and united with then-outgoing Davao Mayor Sara Duterte. The BBM-Sara tandem was victorious on the numbers in the election results. However, their tandem had a falling out after more than a year.
Since 2024 when Duterte left the helm of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Marcos Jr. Cabinet, the Vice President has claimed several times that the Marcos Jr. administration allegedly wants her out. Both the President and the Vice President are faced with corruption accusations and impeachment complaints were filed against them.
Recently, ML partylist Rep. Leila de Lima was asked about former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo. According to News, the former Senator admitted that they are still hoping that the former Vice President will change her mind and will retake a presidential run.
“We’re not losing hope na magbabago pa ang desisyon ni VP Leni na tumakbo uli sa 2028 because, for me, she’s the most winnable among opposition possible or potential opposition na candidates,” de Lima said.
ML partylist Rep. Leila de Lima also believes that former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo only did not make it because now-Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte united. Based on the post, she stressed that the Filipinos are seeing now what is happening to the country under the leadership of Marcos Jr.
“Kasi noon ‘di ba she was not able to make it kasi nag-unite ‘yung Marcos and Duterte forces and then we have seen what’s happening. We have seen how this country is being ran, we have seen all of these corruption issues… It affects both sides, the former Senator said.
According to ML partylist Rep. Leila de Lima, now is an opportunity for those who did not vote for former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo to reflect on the happenings in the country. She believes that the country needs someone who is clean and is an advocate of good governance like former VP Leni.
“Ngayon siguro naman ‘yung mga hindi bumoto kay VP Leni noon ay pagkakataon nila para mag-reflect uli na sa mga pangyayari ngayon… We need somebody like VP Leni Robredo who’s not only clean but very capable at ‘yung kanyang advocacy talaga ‘clean and good governance,'” de Lima expressed.
Recently, Sen. Bam Aquino was asked about what they have talked about during his meeting with former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan among other members of the opposition.
