Technician Arrested for Leaking Female Customer’s Private Photos & Videos After Phone Repair

A technician in  Jabonga, Agusan del Norte was arrested for leaking a female customer’s private photos and videos after a phone repair.

Authorities arrested a 22-year-old man who is suspected of spreading the sensitive content of a 17-year-old girl who earlier asked for his help to repair her phone.

According to police, the suspect was arrested at his home by members of the PNP Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit in Caraga. He reportedly did not resist during the arrest. The operation was carried out after the victim’s parents sought help from authorities upon discovering that their daughter’s private images and videos were circulating on the internet.

Investigators learned that the teenager had approached the technician after her cellphone developed technical problems. Trusting that her device would be fixed properly, she left it in his care.

However, days later, the family was shocked to learn that personal content stored on the phone had been accessed and shared without consent.

The police authorities applied for a digital search warrant to examine the electronic devices owned by the suspect. During the inspection, authorities found a cellphone that allegedly contained private photos and videos of the victim.

Police stressed that incidents like this emphasized the dangers of misusing access to personal devices, especially when minors are involved. They reminded the public to be cautious when handing over gadgets for repair and to choose trusted and reputable service providers whenever possible.

The suspect is now facing charges for violating the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and the Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Act under Republic Act 11930.

These laws are in place to protect children from abuse and exploitation, especially in the digital space.

Authorities assured the public that they remain committed to protecting minors and holding offenders accountable.

They also encouraged families to immediately report similar incidents so that swift action can be taken and further harm can be prevented.
