Fruit Salad Vendor Accidentally Falls Into Open Manhole Under Repair in Cagayan de Oro
A fruit salad vendor accidentally fell into an open manhole that was under repair along Kauswagan National Highway in Cagayan de Oro City.
On Friday afternoon, January 30, 2026, a fruit salad vendor falls into a manhole in Cagayan de Oro while selling his products. The incident quickly caught public attention after a video of the rescue circulated online.
According to the uploader, the vendor was riding his motorcycle when he tried to avoid another vehicle on the road. In doing so, he failed to notice the uncovered manhole along the highway. The motorcycle suddenly dropped, sending him straight into the dirty canal below, where the water was almost up to his neck.
Despite the shock and the unpleasant conditions, the vendor stayed calm as people nearby rushed to help. He suffered only minor scratches on his body and was safely pulled out of the canal after several minutes.
The vendor’s motorcycle was also retrieved, along with his cellphone and the money he earned from selling fruit salad earlier that day. The incident raised concern among motorists and residents who regularly pass through the area.
Many pointed out that the open manhole had no proper barrier or clear warning signs at the time, making it hard for drivers to see the danger, especially in busy traffic. By Saturday (January 31, 2026), warning signs were finally placed around the manhole to alert passing vehicles.
As of this writing, the Department of Public Works and Highways Region Ten has not released an official statement explaining why safety barriers were missing before the accident.
