Estrella “Inday” Barretto was 89 years old at her time of passing. Mommy Inday’s death brought sadness to many. She may not be famous as an actress, but she is famous for giving birth to some of the most popular actresses of the local entertainment industry.
Who is Mommy Inday Barretto?
She is perhaps one of the most controversial matriarchs in showbiz. In her last interview before passing with Ogie Diaz, she described herself as: “Palaban pa rin kapag may kalaban.”
Mommy Inday is Estrella “Inday” Castelo, who was born on January 12, 1937. While not much is known about her past, some of her interviews have alluded to the fact that she had a strict religious upbringing.
She is married to Miguel Alvir Barretto, and he died in 2019. Now, they are together again, nearly seven years after his death.
Inday and Miguel bore seven children together, and the first four lived private lives. The eldest is Miguel Antonio, who passed away in September 2025, followed by Michelle Barretto, Jay-Jay Barretto, and Gia Barretto.
Gretchen Barretto, Marjorie Barretto, and Claudine Barretto are their last three children. They are famous, but at the same time, controversial because of their family dynamics and some highly publicized rifts.
Inday’s youngest is Claudine, and probably, the most prolific actress that she has raised. Claudine is an icon who has top-billed several box office hits, including Got 2 Believe in 2002, Milan in 2004, Nasaan Ka Man in 2005, and Sukob in 2006. She bagged several awards, including two Best Actress awards from FAMAS.
In Inday’s interview with Diaz, she remained committed to protecting her children. However, at 89, she expressed that she can also go anytime.
“It’s a good thing you asked me kasi I’m 89. I can also go anytime. Ayoko nang dalhin sa kabila dun. Kasi doon, donya-donya na ako dun,” she told Diaz.
