CCTV Captures Motorcycle Theft in Quezon City

A motorcycle theft along Cotabato Street in Quezon City was captured on CCTV, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old man. 

The incident happened a little past 11:00 in the morning on Monday, January 12, while the motorcycle was parked beside the road in Bago Bantay, Barangay Ramon Magsaysay, Quezon City. 

CCTV footage showed the motorcycle quietly parked when a man wearing a white shirt passed by. Moments later, he was seen taking the motorcycle and leaving the area. The owner’s staff soon noticed that the motorcycle was missing and remembered seeing a suspicious person lingering near their place even before the vehicle disappeared.

The victim immediately reported the incident to the barangay and later to the police. At Quezon City Police Station 6, authorities showed photos from their records to the victim, who quickly recognized the man seen in the CCTV footage. It helped the police confirm the identity of the suspect.

Col. Capurcos said. 

A follow-up operation was launched to locate both the suspect and the stolen motorcycle. Initial information led officers to different areas, including Caloocan. Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been brought to Barangay San Bartolome in Novaliches, where it was later recovered. 

During the investigation, police also learned that the suspect had taken a helmet from another location. He was briefly held by a security guard but managed to escape, leaving the motorcycle behind. 

When police received information that the suspect would go to a fast-food restaurant near Congressional Avenue and EDSA, they set up surveillance and successfully arrested him.

Authorities found out that the suspect had been jailed before for theft, robbery, and illegal gambling. The arrest marked his fourth time in detention. He admitted to taking the motorcycle, saying he only intended to use it for transportation. 

The suspect is now detained at the Project 6 Police Station custodial facility and is facing charges under the new anti-carnapping law.
