Martin Romualdez Allegedly Bought House & Lot Under Discayas’ Names

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will investigate the report that former Speaker Martin Romualdez purchased a house and lot in an exclusive village in Makati City using the names of contractor couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya.

Romualdez is one of the prominent politicians being dragged into the flood control issue. Previously, he has already denied the corruption accusations against him, including the accusation from former congressman Zaldy Co.

Recently, another accusation was raised against Romualdez, and it also involved the Discaya couple.

Based on the report from Abante News, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will present a witness on Monday, January 19, who will provide details regarding the alleged property that Romualdez purchased in Makati using the names of the Discaya couple.

“Actually, meron (testigo) kaya nga pinapa-arrang¬e ko na kung puwedeng makausap ‘yung da¬ting may-ari para siya na mismo ‘yung magsabi ng mga detalye,” the senator said.

Lacson also said that the investigation will clarify why Romualdez entrusted the Discayas with the purchase of an expensive property in Makati City. The lawmaker wanted to know why Romualdez entered into a contract that was worth P207.5 billion from 2016 to 2025,

When asked how much was paid for the purchase of the said property, Lacson said that the previous owner decided how much he would sell it to Romualdez. “Name your price ang usapan. Gusto nating maliwanagan kung magkano talaga nagkabentahan,” Lacson stressed.

The senator clarified that in recognition of inter-parliamentary courtesy, he will not summon Romualdez unless Speaker Faustino Dy III agrees to have the Leyte congressman appear before the Senate.

Aside from Cong. Martin Romualdez, the Senator, also challenged his fellow Senator, Imee Marcos, to attend the hearing so that she can reveal what she knows about her cousin.

Through Romualdez’s lawyer, he denied the allegation that he met with the Discaya couple to use them as a front for the purchase of a house in Makati City. Atty. Ade Fajardo, Romualdez’s lawyer and spokesperson, said that his client did not know of the alleged transaction.

“Rep. Romualdez has not met the Discayas and has only heard of them based on what is being said in media reports. As such, the claim in the report about using the Discayas as a front in a property purchas¬e is outright baseless,” the congressman’s legal counsel stressed.

Fajardo also recalled the testimony made by Curless Discaya during the House of Representatives hearing in September 2025, where he said that he has no direct transactions with Cong. Martin Romualdez.
