Female Netizen Experiences Corruption After Local Officials Allegedly Asked for 5% Cut
A female netizen reportedly experienced corruption after local officials allegedly demanded a 5 percent share from her project worth P1 million.
Recently, Jessibewgs, a Threads user, shared her experience involving the alleged corruption by local officials who were said to be asking for a 5 percent cut from the project. Her post quickly went viral and garnered mixed reactions from the online community.
The netizen explained that her company was supposed to handle a major project for a municipal building. The work involved setting up an HRIS system along with other IT services. The project was worth nearly P1 million and already included materials, installation, documentation, and other necessary work.
Her company was the only IT service provider in their town and was located just minutes away from the municipal office. During the bidding process, she said local officials allegedly asked for a 5 percent share from the project cost.
The request came even after the project price had already been negotiated and lowered, leaving very little room for profit.
For the business owner, the request felt unfair and discouraging. She pointed out that aside from the reduced pricing, there were still taxes and operating costs to pay. Giving an additional cut would have meant taking a loss instead of earning honest work.
Rather than agreeing to the alleged demand, she decided to decline the project. She chose to protect her values and business, even if it meant losing a large opportunity. She shared that she told the officials to look for another company willing to meet their conditions.
The decision reportedly cost the local office more, as they had to find a different provider at a higher price. For her, the experience opened her eyes to how corruption can affect small businesses and hardworking individuals.
