Duterte’s camp has applied for the interim release of the former President but was denied by the International Criminal Court. The Defense filed for an appeal over the decision of the court.

Last November 28, the ICC rejected the said appeal of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte for an interim release. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously claimed that a “third country” has allegedly committed to host the interim release of the former President if the foreign court will grant it.

Nicholas Kaufman, the lawyer of former Pres. Duterte, claimed that the former Chief Executive’s allegedly “not fit to stand trial”. It led to the postponement of the confirmation of charges hearing. The foreign court also ordered the former President to undergo the checking of three (3) medical experts.

Previously, it was reported that the medical report of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte stated that he’s fit to stand trial — contrary to the previous claim of his lawyer. His camp asked for an additional medical report but the ICC junked the request of Duterte’s camp for an additional medical report which can be used for seeking his interim release again.

The ICC Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) has already na handed over 1,303 pieces of evidence to the camp of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. Based on a report on Inquirer, the pieces of evidence included materials that would link Duterte in the supposed deaths due to his war on drugs.

However, the pieces of evidence against Duterte are confidential. Based on the report, ICC Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang signed the documents. Currently, the foreign court has yet to release a new schedule for the confirmation of charges hearing over the accusations against Duterte.

Recently, Duterte’s former spokesman Harry Roque who is also in The Hague asked for prayers for the former President.
