Star For All Seasons and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos broke her silence on her viral “nasa taas kami, nasa baba kayo” statement.
Vilma has been in the entertainment industry and in the political arena for many years already. She is not a newbie when it comes to intrigues, rumors, controversy, and bashing.
Just recently, her name became a trending topic on social media because of her statement, which did not sit well with many netizens.
In a video, Vilma Santos is shown attacking people attacking her and her husband, Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, because they were lowly. Following the criticism, the official page of the province of Batangas released a statement on social media.
The province clarified that the Governor was misunderstood and that the video that circulated on social media was spliced to put malice on what she said.
PEP entertainment writer Gorgy Rula shared in his recent article that he personally asked Ate Vi regarding this issue through SMS. She stressed that she was referring to the bashers.
“Happy holidays Gorgy! Sila ay ang mga bashers!!!!… Hindi mamamayang Pilipino!!!! Utang na loob ko ang buhay ko at kung saan ako ngayon… sa mamamayang Pilipino!!! Hanggang sa huling hininga ko… Kilala ninyo ako! Salamat!” the veteran acterss-politician said.
With this, Rula shared his own thoughts regarding what happened. For him, what circulated online was not a spliced video but probably an incident of having the wrong choice of words. The writer also said that the Governor was right when she said that they have known her for so many years already.
He pointed out that in several instances, they had encountered Ate Vi, and she never showed any attitude of being boastful. Rula’s fellow entertainment writers, Jerry Olea and Noel Ferrer, agreed with him.
Olea shared that he has known Vilma Santos as someone who is “gracious, at marespeto sa kapwa.” He added, “Hindi siya matapobre!” For Ferrer, the Star For All Seasons might not be referring to social status when she mentioned “taas” and “baba.” “She must have meant sila ang nasa kapangyarihan at sila at napupuna ng mga tao,” Ferrer explained.
