Police Officer Hit on the Head in Downtown Bacolod City, Suspect Shot by Police

A police officer was injured after being struck on the head with a steel pipe along Luzuriaga Street near the Central Market in Barangay 12, Bacolod City, early this morning. 

The injured officer is a 48-year-old Police Chief Master Sergeant assigned to the Bacolod City Police Office. He was on his way to duty and briefly stopped at the market when he noticed a man reportedly drinking along Luzuriaga Street near the Central Market in Barangay 12. 

The officer approached the man to remind him of proper behavior in the area.

Without warning, the suspect suddenly struck the officer on the head with a steel pipe. The attacker, a 56-year-old man known by the alias Juan, continued to act aggressively despite efforts to calm him down. 

The officer suffered a head injury, while the suspect later sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg. 

The cop said that he was forced to respond to protect his life after the suspect kept attacking. Authorities explained that the use of force was necessary due to the immediate danger faced by the officer and to stop the suspect from causing further harm. 

Both the officer and the suspect were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. They are now in stable condition and receiving proper care. The quick response of authorities helped prevent the situation from becoming more serious, especially in a crowded public place. 

Further investigation revealed that the suspect has a pending warrant of arrest for a physical injuries case. 

Police officials reminded the public to remain calm and cooperative during encounters with authorities, especially in public areas. They also emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious or dangerous behavior early to avoid violent situations.
