Alden Richards is now open about sharing his thoughts on social issues
Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards talked about his decision to be more vocal about issues in the Philippines.
Alden has been known for his good boy image. Many fans and celebrities attested to how kind he was. Just recently, netizens talked about his generosity and kindness, even to the fans and ordinary people.
In recent months, it has been noticed that Alden has been fiercer when it comes to sharing his views and opinions. Based on the article in PEP, the Kapuso actor admitted that he used to be “safe” and avoided giving his opinion on important issues in the country, such as politics.
However, now, he is one of the artists who has been vocal in condemning the issue and criticising those who are involved in corruption in flood control projects over the past few months.
A realization came to him that he could use his influence to be a voice for the voiceless. When Alden Richards was asked about his decision to be vocal on important issues today, such as corruption and online bullying, he said that he does not want to be silent anymore.
“So right now, I came to a point where I realised that people who [have] platforms, such as mine right now… It’s an avenue to create noise, to create awareness with what’s happening, so that the voiceless can be heard,” she said.
He has been using his social media platforms to share his thoughts on issues and what is happening in the political arena. Just recently, his movie about injustice and corruption, Out of Order, was released on Netflix. Aside from being the lead male star in this, it was also his directorial debut.
The actor said that the deceit that those in positions of power have been doing is so blatant and rampant that they cannot just remain silent. He thought that people had seen it before, and why shouldn’t someone speak about this?
For him, being silent means being selfish. He stressed that he is saying this in general and not in any particular issues that the country has. Having such widespread influence, Alden said that it would be selfish to remain silent.
“Yun lang din yung na-realize ko, na parang ang selfish ko naman, na I am blessed with this reach and platform that I have, ‘tapos hindi ko siya magamit… Hindi ko siya ginagamit para makapagsalita doon sa mga taong hindi kayang magsalita,” the actor said.
Alden Richards added that being a voice for someone or a group of people is a good thing, and many people have been doing this. He appreciated that he was part of the movement fighting for what was right.
“So I think that’s very important given a platform that you can have a reach to a certain group of people,” the Kapuso actor said.
