A poster claimed that Aiko Melendez will run for vice mayor
Quezon City 5th district Councilor and actress Aiko Melendez released a statement on the allegation that she will run for vice mayor in 2028.
Aiko is just one of the many showbiz personalities who crossed over to the political arena. She won as one of the councilors of Quezon City in the 2025 midterm elections.
Through social media, Aiko would not just share about her showbiz career, but also what she does as a public servant. However, in a recent Facebook post, the actress-politician addressed a piece of fake news.

Aiko Melendez shared a photo of a poster showing her with former Congressman Mike Defensor. The poster claimed that Defensor will run for mayor in 2018, and that Aiko will be his running mate.
The actress-politician debunked this allegation. She stressed that there was no conversation between her and the former congressman regarding this supposed plan.
Aiko also shared that the mayor she is constantly having conversations with is just Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte. She said that they always talk about their work, which is serving their constituents.

The actress-politician also said that she personally clarified the wrong information to Mayor Joy.
Aiko also encouraged the public to be responsible in sharing information and to avoid spreading materials that could give wrong information to the public.
