When Marcos Jr. became a president, he would always promise to end this problem in the country once his term ends. This is dream, which prompted him to create the “Walang Gutom Program.”

Through this program, there was accordingly a significant decline in the hunger rate among its beneficiaries, reaffirming the goal to eradicate hunger in the country by the end of his term.

Speaking in front of the members of the Sama Bajau Indigenous People community at a covered court in Barangay Sinunuc in Zamboanga City, he reiterated this dream of his as a president.

“‘Yun po ay programa ko po ‘yan dahil ang pangarap ko na pagkatapos na ako mag-Presidente, wala nang gutom na Pilipino,” he said referring to the program of his administration under the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The agency distributed ₱3,000 grocery packs to 71 families under the Walang Gutom Program and gave food packs to 500 more families. It also provided ₱15,000 each to 100 beneficiaries through the Sustainable Livelihood Program, while 500 IP families received ₱10,000 each via Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.

The DSWD’s Walang Gutom 2027 Food Stamp Program aims to reduce hunger and malnutrition. It provided opportunities for the beneficiaries to buy nutritious food from accredited stores, targetting 600,000 enrolled households this year and is supported by a $400-million ADB loan.

Medical and livelihood assistance were also offered during the caravan.
