Authorities Arrest 4 Suspects for Stealing Copper Wires from Ortigas Pumping Station in Cainta, Rizal
Four men suspected of stealing copper wires from Ortigas Pumping Station in Cainta, Rizal, were arrested by authorities.
The authorities arrested four out of six suspects involved in stealing copper wires and ballast equipment. The theft took place over the weekend, during the height of heavy rains brought by the recent storm.
According to reports, the suspects were caught on CCTV last Saturday while sneaking into the flood control facility. The following day, the operator discovered that several copper wires and pump machine parts were missing, causing a major disruption in the station’s operation.

The stolen items were important to the pumping system that helps prevent flooding in nearby areas. Without them, the station’s operations were compromised, putting residents at greater risk during strong rains.
Police immediately launched an investigation and were able to track down and arrest four of the suspects. During questioning, the men admitted to the crime and expressed regret for what they did.
The four have already undergone inquest proceedings and are now facing robbery charges. Authorities are still searching for the two other suspects who remain at large.

The local government of Cainta expressed concern over the incident, saying it might take up to two weeks to replace the stolen copper wires and repair the damaged system. They also reminded the public that stealing essential equipment from government facilities not only damages property but also endangers lives, especially during disasters.
Despite the setback, the municipal engineering team is working to restore the pumping station’s full function as soon as possible. Residents were urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activities that could threaten public safety and community infrastructure.
