Severe Tropical Storm Uwan May Become a Super Typhoon Before Hitting Luzon

PAGASA Says Releases Latest Update on Severe Tropical Storm Uwan

PAGASA – The weather agency reported that Severe Tropical Storm Uwan may become a super typhoon before hitting Luzon.

On Friday (November 7, 2025), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Uwan may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday night or early Saturday morning (November 8).

Filipinos are being urged to prepare as the approaching tropical cyclone “Uwan” could strengthen into a super typhoon before making landfall in Luzon.

PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz explained that “Uwan” is currently intensifying over the Philippine Sea and might reach super typhoon category before hitting land. Based on current forecasts, the storm could make landfall by Sunday night (November 9) or early Monday morning (November 10).

PAGASA continues to monitor the system closely, warning that strong winds and heavy rainfall could greatly affect Northern and Central Luzon. Twenty-five areas across Luzon and the Visayas are expected to experience significant rains starting Sunday.

PAGASA said Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes may receive between 100 to 200 millimeters of rain.

Meanwhile, lighter but still substantial rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters is expected in Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Batanes, Cagayan, and several other provinces in both Luzon and the Visayas.

Residents in mountainous and low-lying areas are advised to stay alert as rainfall could be heavier than expected, especially in elevated regions. PAGASA reminded local disaster management offices to take necessary precautions to safeguard lives and property.

“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.
