DILG Orders Early Evacuation as Typhoon ‘Uwan’ Nears Luzon

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered an early evacuation as Typhoon ‘Uwan’ moves closer to Luzon.

The agency has directed all local government units (LGUs) to carry out early or mandatory evacuations in high-risk areas before Sunday (November 9, 2025), as Tropical Storm “Uwan” moves closer to the Philippines and continues to strengthen.

The order came after a situation briefing led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., where national and local agencies were urged to prepare for the worst-case scenario.

Based on PAGASA’s latest update, Severe Tropical Storm Fung-Wong was spotted east of Northeastern Mindanao and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by late Friday or early Saturday.

Once inside, it will be called “Uwan” and could intensify into a typhoon or even a super typhoon before landfall.

The DILG reminded local officials not to wait for the weather to worsen before taking action. All residents living near coastal areas, flood-prone zones, and landslide-prone communities should be safely evacuated ahead of time.

The agency also emphasized the importance of well-prepared evacuation centers with enough food, water, and power supply.

Local leaders were also advised to coordinate with regional disaster councils, strictly enforce the no-sailing policy, and temporarily suspend tourism and outdoor activities in dangerous areas. Equipment and emergency teams should be ready for road clearing and rescue operations.

According to PAGASA, weather conditions may start to deteriorate in eastern Luzon by Sunday, with strong winds and heavy rains expected by Monday. Coastal flooding and storm surges are also likely in Northern and Central Luzon.

The DILG urged the public to remain alert, monitor official updates, and follow safety instructions from authorities. The agency stressed that early preparation is the key to saving lives and reducing the impact of the approaching storm.
