Jericho Rosales ‘Quezon’ Movie, Joey Reyes Says He’s ‘Greatly disturbed’

The movie of Jericho Rosales received negative reactions

The movie Quezon, starring A-list actor Jericho Rosales, received this comment from Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairman and CEO Joey Reyes.

Jericho was chosen to portray the character Manuel L. Quezoin in the third installment of Bayaniverse, which previously featured Heneral Luna and Goyo movies.

The A-list actor shared in previous interviews the preparations he did to portray the former President on the big screen. He was admired for doing that.

However, Quezon’s grandson, Ricky Avanceña, criticized director Jerrold Tarog and Jericho Rosales for allegedly misinterpreting the life and personality of the former President, and they profited from this.

After Jericho and Direk Jerold were called out, based on the article in Inquirer, Direk Joey Reyes shared his thoughts on the Quezon movie.

“I have just watched QUEZON and I left the moviehouse greatly disturbed,” the FDCP chair said. The first reason why he felt disturbed was his questioning about the borderline between fact and fiction.

In a biographical movie such as this, where does the FACT end and the FICTION begin?” he asked. Direk Joey’s second question was about what the director wanted to tell about the three Filipino heroes in the final episode of the Bayaniverse.

Why are there more people watching the SINESILIP movies than an ambitious epic of historical note like QUEZON? I shall not sleep well tonight thinking about this,” the FDCP chair shot his third point.

Direk Joey was referring to the first CineSilip Film Festival. This was an initiative of Viva Films, which is running until Oct. 28. The festival features seven sultry films by rising filmmakers.
