Ombudsman Boying Remulla Speaks on Alleged Wages of Some Lawyers in his Office
REMULLA – The Ombudsman claimed that some new hires in his office allegedly get a salary of at least P126,000 monthly which he said is “not right”.
A few weeks ago, President Bongbong Marcos appointed a new Ombudsman who will succeed former Ombudsman Samuel Martires who retired in July. He chose among the seven (7) applicants in the shortlist submitted by the Judiciary and Bar Council (JBC).

Marcos Jr. appointed now-Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla, a former secretary of the Department of Justice. Undeniably, his appointment was controversial but expected by many Filipinos.
One of the first moves of Ombudsman Remulla was reopening the SALNs or Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth or government officials to the public. He lifted the restrictions that were implemented during the term of Martires.

The newly-appointed Ombudsman also confirmed that he will revisit the Pharmally case, a supposed corruption during the term of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Recently, he also spoke about the alleged salaries of some new hires in his office.
Based on a report on PhilStar, Ombudsman Boying Remulla claimed that some new hires in his office allegedly receive a salary grade of 26 or 27 which he believes is supposedly “not right”. According to him, such wage is already a “director-level” salary given to new lawyers.
“Sometimes it’s bad for morale when people just starting out get in with a salary grade of 26 or 27. That’s already director-level,” he said.

Based on the report, a government official with a salary grade 26 receives at least Php 126,252 monthly. Here’s a guide on the wages under salary grades 25, 26, and 27:
- Salary Grade 25- P111,727 to P124,591 monthly
- Salary Grade 26- P126,252 to P140,788 monthly
- Salary Grade 27- P142,663 to P158,723 monthly
According to Ombudsman Boying Remulla, the said practice of giving high salaries for new lawyers allegedly affect the morale of more qualified personnel who have served the office for a long time already.
“That’s just a new lawyer. That’s not right,” the Ombudsman said.
Amid the flood control mess in the Philippines, Ombudsman Boying Remulla previously assured that they will fast-track the legal process.
