Senate Pres. Tito Sotto Speaks on Return of Sen. Ping Lacson as Blue Ribbon Chairman

TITO SOTTO – The Senate President confirmed that Senator Ping Lacson will return as the chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee chairman.

While the House of Representatives stopped its flood control probe as announced by Speaker Bojie Dy following the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI, the Senate pushed through with its hearing. However, it has yet to resume its investigation since Sen. Ping Lacson stepped down from being the chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee.

Lacson resigned from the lead of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee due to the dissatisfaction of some senators on the “direction” of the flood control inquiry. Previously, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto bared that there are five (5) senator candidates for the Blue Ribbon Committee chairmanship.

Sotto named senators Kiko Pangilinan, JV Ejercito, Raffy Tulfo, Risa Hontiveros, and Pia Cayetano. However, Pangilinan, Tulfo, and Ejercito immediately declined the post.

Following most of the senator candidates refusing to take the post, Sen. Erwin Tulfo who is the vice chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee was appointed as the acting chairman of the panel. Sen. Erwin Tulfo even thanked Sotto and his fellow senators over the Blue Ribbon Committee post.

Previously, there were reports that either Sen. Erwin Tulfo or Sen. Pia Cayetano will be the permanent chairperson of the Blue Ribbon Committee. However, recently, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto confirmed that Sen. Ping Lacson will return in the post.

Based on a report on PhilStar, Sotto claimed that it has come to Lacson that many of their colleagues in the Senate wants him to retake the lead of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. The Senate President Pro Tempore has yet to speak on the development following the confirmation of the SP.

“Long story. In the course of our many conversations, it has come to his (Lacson’s) attention [regarding the] clamor of some of our colleagues and the public that he retake the [committee],” Sotto said.
