Modern Jeepney Driver Dies After Suffering Stroke While Driving
A modern jeepney driver who accidentally hit and killed a cyclist in Molo, Iloilo City, also passed away while being treated in the hospital.
On Friday morning (October 10, 2025), the driver, identified as Conrado, 57 years old, was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck 58-year-old Noel along Lopez Jaena Street.
According to a Facebook post shared by the victim’s child, their father was not a reckless driver, explaining that the incident was purely accidental. Conrado had been driving public vehicles for more than 30 years and was known for being cautious on the road.
Based on CCTV footage from the modernized jeep, Conrado appeared to be in good condition before the accident happened. However, moments later, he suddenly became paralyzed and lost control of the vehicle, which caused it to hit the cyclist and crash near a gasoline station.
Those who knew the driver said that he would normally stop driving whenever he felt unwell, but this time, the stroke came without warning. His relatives later expressed their deep sympathy to the family of the cyclist, saying that Conrado never intended for the tragedy to happen.
Police Master Sergeant Jessie Cabial of the Iloilo City Traffic Enforcement Unit confirmed that the driver’s sudden stroke caused the accident.
Reports stated that both Conrado and Noel were traveling from the Fundidor area toward Molo Plaza when the unfortunate incident happened. Noel, who was reportedly delivering goods, was believed to have just picked up his delivery before being struck.
The families of both the driver and the victim have already spoken with each other, along with the management of the transport cooperative. They have agreed to settle all necessary expenses and support both families affected by the tragic event.
