Marcos Jr. Visits Davao Oriental Following October 10 Twin Earthquakes

Pres. Marcos Jr. Assesses Situation in Manay, Davao Oriental

MARCOS JR. – The President is currently in Davao Oriental today to assess the situation following the twin quakes that hit Manay last October 10.

Recently, several areas in the Philippines were jolted by strong earthquakes that caused an alarm among countless Filipinos. Last October 10, twin quakes occurred in Davao Oriental and a tsunami warning was even raised.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs recorded a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Davao Oriental. The epicenter of the quake was located in Manay. It followed the 7.4 magnitude quake that struck the province prior aside from the aftershocks.

Phivolcs clarified that twin quakes occured in the province. The Davao Oriental was left under a State of Calamity following the twin earthquakes.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos immediately assured the victims of the earthquake that the government was assessing the groud situation and he ordered the concerned agencies to ensure the safety of everyone. The Chief Executive also assured that the search, rescue, and relief operations were being prepared.

Today, Pres. Bongbong Marcos personally visited Manay, Davao Oriental. Based on a posy of SunStar Davao on social media, the Chief Executive went to the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital to assess the damage caused by the twin quakes and see the relief efforts.

Regional and local officials from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of Health (DOH), and the provincial govrnment welcomed the President as per the post.

Following the recent quakes, Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi donated Php 10 million to the earthquake victims in Cebu and Davao Oriental. A 6.9 magnitude quake jolted Cebu last September 30.
