Celeste Cortesi Donates ₱10 Million to Earthquake Victims in Cebu and Davao Oriental

Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi shells out a huge amount for quake victims.

Cebu and Davao Oriental suffered from massive earthquakes, and Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Celeste Cortesi donated P10 million for the victims.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has previously recorded a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu. The shaking was so destructive that it affected a lot of people and resulted in several lives lost. The aftershocks still continue and will continue for weeks or up to months.

Days later, a strong magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Davao Oriental, felt widely across Mindanao. After several hours, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake followed and struck. The twin earthquakes have prompted the local government to declare a state of calamity in the province.

Among those who actively helped through financial donation was Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Celeste Cortesi.

Through her beauty company Asul, which she co-established with British philanthropist Jonathan Sterling, Cortesi initially extended a ₱5 million donation to the Angat Buhay Foundation for Cebu’s relief operations.

The huge amount was used for hygiene kits, water and food packs, cash aid, medical missions, shelters and tents, and mobilization for affected families.

After this, Cortesi and Sterling donated another ₱5 million for the quake victims in Davao Oriental through the Philippine Red Cross. This new donation would help the Philippine Red Cross in its rescue and relief efforts.

PHIVOLCS recorded 824 aftershocks within 24 hours after the twin earthquakes occurred in Davao Oriental. Seven (7) of which registered magnitudes above 5. As for the Cebu quake, 1,853 aftershocks in the first 24 hours following the main shaking were recorded.

At least 72 people lost their lives in the Cebu area in late September, while seven others were reported dead following the earthquakes in Davao.
