Classroom Ceiling Collapses in Davao City, Teacher and Five Grade 4 Students Got Injured
A teacher and five Grade 4 students sustained minor injuries after the ceiling of their classroom collapsed in Davao City.
On Tuesday morning (October 7, 2025), a teacher and some students at Lapu-Lapu Elementary School in Agdao, Davao City suffered injuries after the classroom ceiling collapsed.
According to the teacher, Marites Cañeda, she was in the middle of teaching when they suddenly heard a strange noise coming from above. Moments later, the ceiling gave way, causing panic among the students.

Fortunately, most of them were able to run out quickly, though a few sustained light injuries from falling debris.
The incident happened on the third floor of a school building that has been in use since 2017. After the collapse, authorities immediately arrived to ensure everyone’s safety and to assess the situation.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already conducted an inspection to determine what caused the ceiling to fall.

The school principal assured that repairs will be made as soon as possible. In the meantime, classes for the affected students have shifted to blended learning while officials make sure the building is safe for use again.
Parents expressed relief that no one was seriously hurt, but many also voiced concern about the condition of school facilities. The incident reminds us of the importance of regular inspections and maintenance, especially in buildings used by young students.

Despite the frightening experience, the teacher and students are now recovering from the incident. The school community hopes that once the repairs are completed, they can safely return to face-to-face classes without fear of another accident happening again.
