Senate Flood Probe To Continue under Lead of Sen. Erwin Tulfo as Acting Chairman of Blue Ribbon Committee

ERWIN TULFO – The Senator thanked Senate President Tito Sotto and their fellow lawmakers for trusting him to be the acting chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee.

Amid the flood control mess in the Philippines, Sen. Ping Lacson resigned from being the chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. His decision to step down from the position visibly saddened many of his colleagues in the Senate.

The Senate continued its flood control probe despite the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI. The independent body was formed under the order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Under the lead of Sen. Ping Lacson, some resource persons of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee have tagged senators in the flood control corruption. According to Senate Pres. Tito Sotto, the former Senate Blue Ribbon Chairman is ‘frustrated’ over the comments of their colleagues on the ongoing investigation.

Several senators tried to convince Lacson, a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, in the position. Sen. Kiko Pangilinan claimed that no one from the majority wanted him to step down. However, Lacson stood by his decision to resign.

Following the resignation of Sen. Ping Lacson, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto unveiled that there are 5 candidates for the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairmanship. They are senators Kiko Pangilinan, JV Ejercito, Risa Hontiveros, Pia Cayetano, and Raffy Tulfo.

However, Pangilinan, Ejercito, and Tulfo immediately declined the consideration. When it was only Hontiveros and Cayetano who were left, Sotto announced that Sen. Erwin Tulfo is included in the candidates for the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairmanship.

Erwin Tulfo

Sen. Erwin Tulfo was the vice chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee under the lead of Sen. Ping Lacson. According to the Senate Chief, Tulfo will lead the committee if all five (5) senators will decline the post.

Following his appointment as the acting chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, based on a post on Inquirer, Sen. Erwin Tulfo expressed his gratitude to Senate Pres. Tito Sotto and their colleagues.

“I thank Senate President Tito Sotto and my colleagues in the Senate for the trust in allowing me to serve as acting chair of the Senate blue ribbon committee,” he said.

Sen. Erwin Tulfo further expressed his awareness “that many Filipinos rely on this committee to investigate those who took advantage of public funds, regardless of their position in government or political affiliation”. Based on the report, the Senator is currently on an official trip abroad.

Previously, Sen. Erwin Tulfo went viral on social media following his “bend the law” remarks during a Senate flood probe.
